This picture below is wrong on so many levels. It's sad when you see a wax figure of Helen Keller and all you can think of are the awful lyrics of "Do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips"

New York City Trip

We had a fabulous time in New York City! I’ll be honest, I was a little concerned how I would do there considering how claustrophobic I am and how I hate crowds – but I loved every minute of that city. The weather couldn’t have been better. It was upper 80’s every day except today, but we left so it didn’t matter. I started to really miss Jack on Tuesday night and was ready to come home and glad we had an early afternoon flight. Here is a brief summary of what we did:

SUNDAY
  • Arrived in NYC at about 10 AM – 30 minutes ahead of schedule. Our town car was there ready to pick us up (a town car was only 28 bucks, compared to a 45 dollar taxi ride)
  • Checked into our hotel – room was ready right away. The hotel was 45 stories high and huge, we were on the 17th floor. It was a great hotel – but it was so busy. The location was right in the center of Times Square and we had a great view
  • Went to lunch with our Omaha friends at an Irish Pub
  • Walked to central park (so big and so much fun)
  • Walked to the Metropolitan Art Museum and walked around inside for a while
  • Walked back to our hotel
  • Rested and then ventured over to Rockefeller Center
  • Had the AXA buffet dinner
  • Went out to a few bars and got home about 1 AM and we saw Jose Reyes on the street, he’s a baseball player for the NY Mets. Apparently Tom says that he’s a big deal, I’ve never heard of him

MONDAY

  • Went out to lunch at Spotted Pig in SoHo. This was such a cute little restaurant, I loved it
  • Walked all around the financial district – Wall Street, New York Stock Exchange, Trinity Church, took a picture with the big bull
  • Went to Battery Park – opted out of the statue of Liberty ferry, we didn’t really have enough time
  • Saw Ground Zero
  • Took a subway back to the hotel
  • Did some shopping at Anthropology and Banana Republic
  • Went out to dinner at Mesa Grill – the Bobby Flay restaurant. This place was really good, but to be honest I wish we would have spent the money on a show instead of dinner. Oh well, live and learn. We had great company!
  • Called it an early night

TUESDAY

  • Went to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum – this was expensive, but SO much fun! We took so many pictures and had a blast!
  • Had a nice lunch at this little sandwich shop
  • Walked around Rockefeller Center more – went in the NBC building, saw Brian Williams (the NBC nightly news guy) in J Crew, and went to a few other shops down there!
  • AXA Awards Dinner and awards presentation
  • Another guy named Tom from AXA who works out of South Dakota was the biggest award winner of the night. He invited some people from MN and Omaha to his penthouse on the 44th floor after the dinner and it was HUGE! It even had a Grand Piano in it too, just like the movies

And we left on Wednesday. What a great trip. The few things I would do next time are go to the Today show, see a show (the show times didn’t work out for us), and maybe see Letterman or some other live taping in the area. I’m not gonna lie, I was a little (OK a lot) scared when I heard about the plane flying right by the buildings and making people evacuate. And I won’t even tell you what went through my head when I heard over 20 cases of suspected Swine Flu had been diagnosed right in NYC. HA! We are safe and sound now back at home and feeling great :-)

ONE WEEK...

And we will be in New York City! We are getting so excited. It will be so fun to have a nice getaway for a few days and also be able to see some old friends.

We really don't have any set agenda. Tom will be in conferences most mornings. Since we are staying right in Times Square, I don't think I'll have a problem venturing out on my own for a little bit. Take a look at our HOTEL - it is the New York Marriott Marquis. We'll have most of Sunday to do whatever we want and then Monday night is free to go out. But Tuesday there is a formal dinner and then we leave on Wednesday. We are hoping to make it to the Today Show - so be sure to look for us, ha!

So most of this week will be spent cleaning our house and getting my outfits together :-) We had a WONDERFUL weekend. It was really relaxing. If any of you have any suggestions for what to do in NY, please let us know!

Happy Easter!

We had a wonderful Easter today! The Easter Bunny dropped Jack off some crayons, a bucket, and some sun glasses! He LOVES them, ha ha.
So the main story of the weekend - Jack broke his crib and fell out. Our crib had a front fold rail - you can see a picture of it here. So, every morning Jack will bang bang bang this front rail. That is when we know he's up and ready to go. Apparently, he's done this so much that the plastic hinges that hold the rail upright broke off. So Saturday morning I heard the bang bang and then a few minutes later I heard a THUD and then a death scream. I rushed into the room and Jack was on the floor on his tummy. Poor boy - he was just fine though. I was like, what are we going to do? I called JC Penney (where we got the crib) and since our warranty was up last November - they couldn't send us a new crib. So I got the number for the manufacturer and I'm going to call them tomorrow morning and see how much a new front rail would be and if they can help us out. In the meantime, Tom's coworker Amy (who by the way has given us WAY too much baby stuff) is letting us borrow her gorgeous white pottery barn crib. She says we can use it for however long we want since her kids are out of cribs, but we feel bad and want to get ours fixed. Although, if we do get the part replaced - how long until Jack breaks it? How do you get him to stop doing that? I suppose I could go in there right away instead of taking my sweet time getting up in the morning - but what's the fun in that?
We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter - we sure did. Oh sidenote - TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY Tom and I will be in New York City (without Jack, thankyouverymuch!)! We can't wait!

Guess who we saw today?

Besides running into Great Grandma and Grandpa Loney at the mall - we saw THE EASTER BUNNY!!!

Jack wasn't too freaked out by the bunny. I was though - honestly, you wonder what type of person is actually under that costume...yikes. Anyway, I got to take my own pictures for no price, not too shabby. Jack wasn't all smiles - but he wasn't screaming either. Teri came with me, so we were able to enjoy a cup of coffee with my grandparents afterwards for a while too. So nice!!

Here are some pictures:

Checking things out

What the heck is this?

Get me outta here!!!

Enough pictures Mom - I want to LEAVE!

Such a busy morning, I think I'll nap in the car so I don't have to nap at home.

Easter Eggs!

We made our Easter Eggs yesterday. Jack really had no attention span for it, but we tried. Here are some pictures!
