My Family

Tom and I met in high school - I was a sophomore, he was a senior. That relationship did not last terribly long :-) We remained close friends and my senior year (his sophomore year in college) we started our long distance relationship. It wasn't easy, we had our share of break ups and drama like any other relationship - but we fought through it and followed our hearts. We lived in Omaha together for 3 years, where Tom finished his military career (he is now a Financial Advisor) and I finished college. We were then married May 2006 back in MN.

Tom is my rock. If you know me at all, you know that I can be a little high maintenance and worry about unnecessary things. Tom balances me out. We laugh on a daily basis. Tom loves his job, which is wonderful! He also loves watching, playing, and coaching hockey. He is Jack and Finn's superhero and once Leo gets older, he will be his too. All three boys' entire faces light up when Tom gets home. It's the best part of the day when daddy gets home from work! I love that my boys have such an incredible role model.

Jack

When we found out we were pregnant for the first time, we both wanted to get back home to MN so we could be closer to our family. So we sold our townhouse (luckily!) in Omaha and moved home. On Christmas Eve 2007, we welcomed Jack Thomas Starkey into our family. Jack has opened up my world in the most amazing way. He was the bestest baby in the whole wide world. As a toddler he cracked me up on a daily basis. And now as an almost Kindergartner, he just blows my mind away. He is so much like me, it's frightening. He is obsessed with technology - phones, lights, fans, buttons, robots, you name it. He is the most active kid on the planet and never sits still.

Finn
Finn Brendan Starkey was born almost exactly two years later. I kid you not, his due date was Christmas Eve 2009. Thank goodness he wasn't born on Jack's birthday/Christmas Eve - he was however born on New Years Eve. Coincidence? I think not. Finn has tested my patience beyond belief since the day he was born, but his smile makes me forget all of my frustrations. The way he looks at his big brother makes my heart melt. I like to say that Finn got all of his crying out his first two years of life. He cried ALL. THE. TIME as a baby. Now as an almost 3 year old, he's not nearly as stubborn as his older brother. He plays independently, uses his imaginative mind, he is very emotional and sensitive and he's just the cutest little guy in the whole world. Seriously, he's little. He gets his genes from his mama. He hasn't gotten out of below the 3rd percentile since he was 9 months old. He probably never will, I'm still there :-)

Jack and Finn (SUCH an OLD photo!) So cute!

Leo Patrick Starkey was born on July 2, 2012. He has been just what this family needed. He's the chunkiest, smiliest, happiest baby in the whole wide world. He's our last baby and we plan on soaking every last bit of this stage up. I've been a boy mom for almost 5 years now and there have been moments where I've longed for more femininity in the house. More girl time. But this whole boy thing, I've got it down.

Wherever this roller coaster of life takes us next, I'm ready because we have each other. And really, what else do you need in life?
