Dear 13 Year Old Self

This post is inspired by Kelle Hampton and Darcy Wild

I am a woman. I am a mother. I am a daughter. I am a wife. I am a sister. I am an aunt. I am a niece. I am a God-Mother. I am a friend. And being female is hard. It was a lot harder when I was young, for sure. Peer pressure got to me at times and I was more concerned about who my friends were and how I appeared to others than just loving myself for me. I think my worst years were the beginning of  junior high and then the beginning of high school. Just trying to figure out where I fit, where I belong, where I felt the most loved. Most of the time I knew when I was hanging out with the wrong crowd. My conscience was extra loud for some reason and the times when I dismissed it are the times when I got into trouble and did things I regret the most.

I've learned over the course of my life so far that women have an incredible bond with each other. I've learned this through my family and through my best friends. I wouldn't be the woman I am today without the help of the other women in my life. And even though I don't have any daughters to raise and teach them all about inner beauty and embracing yourself for who you are, I can focus my energy on raising amazing men who will love women the way they should. Who will respect women, treat them the way they deserve to be treated. It helps that my boys have an incredible father as a role model too. So even though I might not have any female connections in my house (Bailey doesn't count), I understand the importance of female connections and the power of the double x chromosome being!

Dear Thirteen Year Old Molly,
Keep your head up and keep smiling. Stop worrying about what other people think of you. Stick up for yourself and what you believe in. In 13 years when you are married and have two little boys you aren't going to remember all of the parties you did or did not get invited to. You aren't going to remember what lunch table you sat at or that someone wrote you the meanest note in the world. OK, maybe you'll remember that one, but just remember Karma is a bitch. Listen to your conscience. Hang out with your parents. Don't hate on your brother so much, someday he will inspire you so much that you will wish you wouldn't have slammed so many doors in his face. And you know those five friends you've started to hang out with in high school? Treat them right because you are going to need them an incredible amount down the road of your amazing life you are about to embark on. Don't sweat the small stuff. And you know how some people make fun of your obnoxious laugh and your loud tendencies? Embrace them. They are your signature and laughter is the best medicine. You are so much stronger than you give yourself credit for, and someday you will realize that. It might take a certain tragedy in your family to open up your eyes, but you will get there. Don't ever doubt yourself and don't ever give up. Oh and whenever you are feeling down or blue, just talk to mom. She always makes things better. Always.
Love,
The 26 Year Old Molly

'Tis The Season

Can you believe there are Christmas decorations out everywhere already? It's not even Halloween!!! Secretly, I kind of like it. I love the holidays (although having Christmas, New Years, your two kids birthdays on Christmas and New Years - ha!, two brothers birthdays, and god-daughter's birthday all in one month is a TAD much)!  I love decorating for the holidays too. I love sipping my mother-in-laws amazing hot chocolate and baking cookies. This year I am going to make a TON of cookies, so send me your favorite recipes. Are you ready for Christmas? We are (or should I say Finn is).

Biggest Loser

This post isn't about the show, it's about how I feel like I'm on the show, The Biggest Loser. Seriously, my workouts at Velocity Sports are ridiculously intense. Every night I come home and Tom asks me what I did and he gets jealous because it reminds him of his hockey training. Here is just a little glimpse into my workout sessions. I'll tell you about last nights because it's the freshest one in my mind.

I arrive at about 5:10, my workout begins at 5:15. There are approximately 10 people in this class - the previous classes have ranged from 4 people to about 11 is the max. Half of the "gym" is about 40 yards of a turf football field. We start our workout with a light jog down and back on the turf. Then we do random stretches and lunges and squats for 10-30 yards and sprint back. After our 5 minute warm up we are ready to go. Last night, Derrick, (the trainer) whipped out the rope ladder and we did random two steps in them for 6 minutes. This burns your legs. (on Saturday morning I did these with a weight vest on). Then we partnered up and grabbed a 5 lb circle weight. The first partner did the random weight lift and/or lunge that Derrick instructed for 10 times and then sprinted down 30 yards and back. When our partner crossed the line, the other partner would begin their 10 sets. We did this for ten times. Water break. Then we went on to stations. There were 5 stations, 2 people at a station, 1 minute at each station. The first station we jumped onto a high block for a minute straight. Then we pulled 25 lbs on a sled weight down and back as many times as we could for a minute. Then we flipped a HUGE tire as many times as we could with our partner for a minute. Then we did sit ups with a weight ball. Then the last station was push ups on a ball under one arm and rolled it to the next arm for a minute. We were all DYING after these stations. Derrick told us to get water and that we were going to the stations AGAIN!!! Holy Mother of God I was so sore. But it felt great! I'm finally starting to not be so sore. Last week I could barely turn my steering wheel while driving, I had a hard time picking up Finn, and I didn't even bother pulling the baby gate a part because my arms wouldn't work. HA. Can you now see why I feel like I'm on the biggest loser. Although the people in my classes are NOT overweight - they are all ripped and run marathons. ha.

So now I should probably go to bed since I'm working out tomorrow at 5:30 AM. AHHHHHHHH.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

I've really wanted to continue doing these Scavenger Hunt Sundays, but the past few weeks have been so crazy busy I haven't had time to take the right photos! Finally I got around to it this week, although I am going to use two archived photos only because they are the most fitting for the categories.

The rules are simple:
1. Anyone can participate.
2. You're encouraged to take five new photos this week for the challenge.
3. If you get stumped, you may use one photo from your archive (although I'm not too strict about it - I do my best to take fresh shots).
4. Link up here on Sunday (or Tuesday at the latest) - you can use the button above.
5. Have fun!

1. PINK
Photobucket

These are my Snooki slippers I bought for my Halloween costume. I got them at Target for $6. Although they are nowhere near as big as Snooki's, they do the job. I'm trying to get them a little worn in before showtime. Living in a house full of boys, there isn't a lot of pink laying around either :-)

2. Books
Photobucket

There are books scattered everywhere throughout my house during the days. I don't mind as long as Finn doesn't rip out the pages of the paperback ones!

3. Fall Colors
Photobucket

I took this picture last week on a walk after dinner, so technically it wasn't for this Scavenger Hunt, but how could I not use this picture for fall colors - come on?

4. Leaf (leaves)
Photobucket

I took this picture on the same walk as the previous picture. Right now in Minnesota, the leaves are falling like crazy. Even though yesterday it got up in the 80's! I love Fall up here!

5. Orange

Gotta love pumpkins in a wagon.

Join the hunt next week, here is what you should start looking for:
Side Lighting
Jack O'Lantern
Faces formed in nature
Sunset

Flash Me! Friday - Staples in your cupboard

It's time for some flashing! Want to participate? Hope on over to Jen's blog

This week - Flash us some of the staples in your cupboard/pantry

This is a funny picture.
Bananas - I buy bananas at least twice a week. Jack inhales them and Finn likes them too. I have also started eating way more since I've eliminated a lot of processed foods.
Booze - It's rare we don't have booze in our house. We are by no means alcoholics, but we enjoy our adult beverages
Formula - Finn's beverage of choice
Cheese - A must have, always
Coffee - A necessity to make it through the day
Yogurt - Jack would eat yogurt at every meal if we let him.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Happy 29th Birthday, Tom!

Today is Tom's 29th birthday! Yeah! Last year before the thirties, crazy! We have a fun little night planned. We got tickets to the Twins game! They NEED to win! We are going to the game with some great friends so it should be a fun night for sure. I have a pretty cool gift that Jack is giving Tom, but I won't share that yet since Tom isn't getting it until later this afternoon. I mean I know he is constantly reading this blog...oh wait. ha ha.

I love you so much Tom and it's weird to think that I met you when you were what, 18? ha ha. I only laugh because when I think about the guy Tom was in high school compared to who he is today it makes me giggle. Tom is seriously the most amazing man in the world. Honestly, I don't think there is anyone else who would be able to put up with all of my flaws and bring me back to reality the way that he does. And to see him father our two boys just melts my heart. He is a wonderful father. And I know I'm biased, but honestly what father of two children (ages 2 and 6 weeks at the time) would send their wife to Arizona for a long weekend for a getaway? That is just one of the many examples to show the kind of person and husband that Tom is. I love Tom so much and I'm so proud of the family that we have made together (with a little help from the Man upstairs of course).

I love you, Tom. Happy Birthday.

Finn's 9 Month Dr Visit (someone got his mama's genes)

Well first off, I'm happy to report that Finn is healthy as can be! From his 6 month appointment he gained a whopping 1/2 inch and 1.5 lbs. He is 27 inches tall and weighs in at 17 pounds. Which puts him at 10th percentile for height and 5th for weight! The weight isn't what concerns me, only because Finn is incredibly active and always on the go. Plus I know he's getting enough formula and enough to eat (3 meals a day plus snacks). It's his height that somewhat concerns me. But then I snap back to reality and remember that I am only 5 feet tall. And as a kid (ok and as an adult) I never got over that 5th percentile mark. But SAD. I asked the doctor if I should be concerned about anything and he said no. He said starting at about 9 months is when kids start to portray what percentile they will really be in, so we will have a better idea at his 12 month appointment what this trend is going to be like. He's healthy and that's all that matters!

I'll leave you with a message from Jack. Tom taught this to him about 6 months ago. Pathetic I know. But now he actually has a reason to say it. This is a tribute to Randy Moss.

Me: How are you going to pay for that Jack?
Jack: Straight Cash Homey

Apple Orchard, MN Fall Walks, Potty Training

This past weekend was GORGEOUS here in Minnesota. On Saturday we decided to venture out to our favorite apple orchard/pumpkin patch. The apples were a huge disappointment, but we had heard about that in advanced. We still managed to swipe up a few apples off of the ground. (ps I just have to say that dressing boys gets SO MUCH MORE FUN when they get older). Girls are always fun to dress, but there is not a lot of super duper cute baby boy clothes. This definitely changes as they get older!

The hunt for the best pumpkin begins:

This one looks a little heavy for Jack, no?

This one looks a little bit more like Jack's size:

I know it looks like Jack hasn't grown a ton, but last year this chart was on a hill :-)

Moving on...

There is nothing like taking walks after dinner in the Fall here in MN. It's our favorite thing to do!

And this is our favorite house to stare at and say "ahhhh someday, someday"

Fall is my FAVORITE!

And now for the potty training talk:

For the past few weeks, I've been getting ready to really potty train. We've tried going, we've talked about it, blah blah blah. I think a month ago I even put Jack in big boy pants just to get him uncomfortable when he would go potty, and he didn't even care that he was peeing himself. So I was like, nope - he's not ready. Well this past weekend we tried again and he showed a lot more interest, but was still having a lot of accidents. Today I decided I would try again and if he had a lot more accidents I would try again next week. So after lunch we headed to target and I got supplies to make this:

Photobucket

So we made him a potty chart! Nothing organized, just a poster board that Jack colored and he puts stickers on when he goes potty. Every time he sits on the potty, he gets a sticker. If he goes pee, he gets two stickers to put on the chart and if he poops he gets three. He also gets one m&m when he pees and two when he poops. We didn't have one accident after his nap today and he went potty probably 8 times before bedtime and one little poop too. I was SO proud of him. It's funny because this morning after I got back from Target, I was talking to a girlfriend about how I just wanted it to click with him. I wanted him to get that he needs to tell me he has to go and then sit on the potty and go. Well - it's amazing what stickers, candy, and good ole bribing can do. I feel SO lucky to have amazing friends that have gone through this before to help me out and give me incredible suggestions :-)

PS - I started my 10 week boot camp this morning! No processed foods all day. How am I doing? I'm starving!

Flash Me! Friday - Fall Decor

Time for a little FMF! Want to participate? Just hop on over to Jen's Blog

This week flash us your FALL DECOR

My fall decor also incorporates a little Halloween decor. However, I don't have any major halloween stuff outside yet. I still need to buy those huge pumpkin leaf bag, I usually get 6 of them.

This is my favorite halloween decoration. My husband hates it, but I refuse to get rid of it. I will hang it outside our front door starting in a week or so :-)

I also have sticky things on our window and a fall wreath hanging on our front door. I didn't take a picture of them, so you can use your imagination!

Happy Friday everyone. We just back from getting our flu shots (me and Jack). Ouch!
